How to Use a Dab Rig

Unlike bongs, concentrate rigs are specially designed to encourage the best flavors and hits from your concentrates. They’re usually smaller in size and built to support a dab nail or banger, which you’ll use to vaporize your concentrates. Finding the perfect dab rig can be difficult, but we've tried to make the process a bit easier. If you’ve tried dabbing and enjoyed it, perhaps you’re ready to invest in a dab rig of your own. But, like many newbies, you’re probably a little intimidated by the sheer variety of glass pipe that are available. With terms like “nails,” “domes” and “reburn” being bandied about, you may feel like a fish out of water.

At first glance, this doesn’t seem like such a pressing issue. However, you need to keep in mind that the nail is responsible for heating the concentrate glass bongs to the point where it produces vapor. Ideally, the nail should heat up quickly, and it should be able to retain heat for a decent period of time.

The base is typically made from glass, but can also be made from other materials such as ceramic or silicone. Before you rush to buy a dab rig, there are a few things you should consider. Firstly, will you need a recycler dab rig, or will a standard banger hanger do? A recycler rig's extra cooling could be a massive benefit if you are after more significant vapor clouds and like higher temp dabbing. These two categories are similar but different in one main way. Rosin, on the other hand, only requires plant material or hash, along with high pressure and low heat.

The nail is heated using the torch, typically for about 30 seconds, depending on the material of the nail. It is left to cool—again, the amount of time depends on the nail’s material—so vapor does not burn your throat. Once it has reached the optimal temperature, use a dabber to scoop a small amount of cannabis concentrate from its container. Dab rigs require a lot more than bongs, including a dabber tool, carp cap, dab torch, and dab nail. To hit a bong, all you’ll need is a lighter and a bowl piece. When it comes to bongs, bigger is often better--but the opposite is true for dab rigs.

One end is usually flattened to hold / scoop said concentrates and wax, while the other is sharp and pointy for cleaning and scraping. There's 3 types of Recyclers; Standard Recyclers, Incyclers and Klein Recyclers. Klein Recyclers combine elements of the standard and incycler design for an awesome experience. Standard recyclers feature external outtake arms (Like Freeze Pipe's Recycler Bong) that transport water vapor to and from each chamber. Incyclers do the same thing but are more compact and the transporting arms are located within the main glass chamber. Incyclers are great but sometimes these internally located arms can interfere with percolation.
